ICC is keenly concerned with every aspect of preparation related to upcoming World Cup. As a requirement, the organisers will play a few matches on newly laid pitch and refurbished outfield in order to check their perfection for hosting World Cup matches.
ICC has taken steps to introduce DRS (Decision Review System) starting form Quarterfinal stage of the World Cup, scheduled to be played in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh from the February to April 2011.
The ICC's approval for DRS in the Cricket World Cup 2011 ensures more on-pitch drama.
The DRS system is based on “Hawkeye” technology which uses infrared sensors to accurately show where the ball touched the bat or the batsman.
ICC has introduced this DRS in for the first time in its history for making ICC cricket World Cup 2011 presentation more entertaining and eye-catching.
Under the Decision Review System, players can challenge on-field umpiring decisions by requesting a look-in by the third umpire. The ICC move that was taken after its Singapore meeting, apart from potentially revolutionising umpiring decisions in the shorter formats of the game, is set to spice up on-pitch proceedings and add to the drama of the World Cup.
He explained that the DRS would only be used in final stages of the tournament to be played in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh to cope up with small number of proper equipments which would also be used during the League Phase.
The knockout stage of the tournament will be played from 23 March to 2 April.
In the meantime, ICC venue inspection team including seven groups inspected Wankhede Stadium in India which is to host the grand finale.
ICC spokesperson told, “Seven groups are dealing with cricket operations, commerce, grounds, legal, security, broadcast, and media. They had inspection of the stadium and whatever they saw today will be shared with Tournament Director,” he said.
The renovation work in the stadium is still in process although it started two years back, but officials of the Mumbai Cricket Association who own this, assured that all the preparations would be completed by the end of this year.
ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat has indicated at the council's plans to explore the possibilities of DRS in all international games. The system's shorter version debut in the 2011 World Cup will be a test run for the plans.
Much, however, depends on how the infrastructure holds up. Collaboration with technology suppliers and broadcasters has been one priority area for the ICC, before it spreads the DRS scope to other formats of the game. Adopting the best of technology will be critical for the game's administrators, considering that the ICC itself had put the Graeme Smith decision blame on technology, saying it didn't provide enough volume on third umpire Daryl Harper's feed, to help him catch the sound of the edge and make the right decision.
The source of MCA told that everything would be ready by 31 December and final touches will be completed until 15 January.
The visit of international governing body of cricket in Wankhede Stadium follows its inspection of Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, another venue to host World Cup matches.
Besides, ICC has also visited five other venues in India which are hosting World Cup matches.

South Africa Hopeful To Win World Cup This Time
South Africa were defeated by England in 1992 ICC World Cup and could not achieve their dream of becoming World champions.
Six months after the football World Cup kicked off in Johannesburg, South Africans are coming to terms with the fact that hosting the premier international sporting event boosted national pride but attracted a third fewer visitors than expected.
South African pace bowler Dale Steyn is quite positive about winning the forthcoming World Cup to be played early next year. Steyn assured that the team would not be getting on the field for any match during the event with even the least memories of last World Cup where they had many embarrassing moments.
The World Cup brought in welcome foreign currency, but football tourists spent about a tenth of the government’s multi-billion euro tab and the global recession has dulled the return on investment.
The money spent by the 310,000 visitors pales next to the government’s 3.6-billion-euro outlay on the extravaganza.
In 1996 ICC World Cup too the story almost repeated but much earlier and in the hands of West Indies when a superb century by Brian Lara enabled his team to defeat South Africa in quarter final.
In 1999 semi final game, South Africa struggled superbly to tie with Australia in semi finals but due to a lower run rate in Super Six matches compared to Australia, they had to stay back to let Australia reach to finals.
In 2003 it was much worse scenario when South Africa misjudged scoring based on Duckworth Lewis Rules and that wrong calculation threw them out of the fray much earlier.
Steyn remarked about all these previous mistakes done by his team by stating that probably the team had a stream of bad luck during all those previous World Cup events and hoped that with 7 players from his team appearing for the first time in World Cup 2011, the team would try to reverse all bad luck to grab the honor this time.
He assured that each of the team member would be delivering their best to achieve this target being dreamed by each teammate.

Jacob Oram eying comeback into New Zealand cricket in ICC World Cup 2011
A successful comeback of Jacob Oram to his team after having injury problems. The experienced all-rounder had been struggling a lot with injury issues, which have haunted him throughout his career.
Oram had a knee injury and he had gone for surgery in September due to which he has been out of action for a long time. His team is currently struggling against India after losing both the Test and the One Day series against them. Oram would be hopeful to recover in time before the World Cup, which will be held in India in 2011.
Similarly to Oram, the pace ace of New Zealand Shane Bond had too many injury issues, which eventually forced the player to retire from international cricket. Bond had an abdominal strain after which he decided that he has had enough and he called it a day. The all-rounder Oram says that he is in the same frame of mind as the fast bowler Bond was in, which caused him to retire sooner than expected.
He may return to the team during the series against Pakistan in the Test or the One Day matches to gain some match practice and to find out where he stands at international level after making a comeback to the team.

Afridi plays down World Cup hopes
Shahid Afridi, Pakistan's ODI captain, has said Pakistan does not have high expectations for the World Cup since their preparations have been hampered by the spot-fixing allegations against a number of their players.
"I am not 100 % satisfied with the team's preparations for the World Cup," Afridi told AFP. "We've had problems on every tour, and although there aren't high expectations [of winning the World Cup], as captain I'm positive and will keep on motivating the team."
His comments came one day after manager Intikhab Alam said Pakistan was capable of winning the World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka from February 19 to April 2, 2011.
The trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif have been suspended by the ICC over charges of spot-fixing that arose on Pakistan's tour of England in August. On their subsequent tour of the United Arab Emirates to play South Africa, Pakistan seemed to have regained some form levelling the ODI series 2-2. But on the eve of the deciding game, wicketkeeper Zulqarnain Haider fled to England, due to alleged threats to his life from bookmakers, and has since retired from international cricket. Pakistan ended up losing the game.
For Pakistan's upcoming tour of New Zealand, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik have been left out of the Twenty20 and Test series after the PCB did not clear them, and Afridi said he did not know why they were not included.
"You should ask the PCB and selection committee about why Kamran and Malik were not picked," he said. "Both are good players and have been doing well in domestic matches." Kamran and Malik have both expressed disappointment at not being picked for the New Zealand tour.
Pakistan has until December 19 to select a provisional 30-man World Cup squad, which should be trimmed down to 15 by January 19. Pakistan is placed in Group A of the 14-team competition along with defending champions Australia, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Canada, New Zealand and Zimbabwe.

ICC World Cup 2011
Cricket Schedule of ICC World Cup 2011. Fixtures of ICC World Cup 2011 has been announced. The first schedule match of ICC World Cup 2011 between India vs Bangladesh begins Feb 19, 2011 onwards. Keep viewing CriSchedule for latest updates on Cricket Schedule and Fixtures of upcoming ICC World Cup 2011.
Good times are here for India. The country will get to host the tenth world cup of its most loved sport in 2011 along with co-hosts Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It will be the first time co-hosting for Bangladesh in a cricket world cup. Fourteen national teams are scheduled to compete for the coveted cup between February and early April 2011. According to the announced fixtures of ICC World Cup 2011, the first match will be played among co-hosts India and Sri Lanka at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
The formerly announced time-table of 2011 world cup also included Pakistan as a co-hosting nation but the 2009 attack on Sri Lankan cricket team at Lahore which left seven players injured, forced the world cup governing body (ICC) to strip off Pakistan of its co-hosting rights on Apr 17, 2009. India will now host 29 of the total 49 planned matches including the all important grand final at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai and one semi-final as well. Sri Lanka will host 12 matches while the first time nation Bangladesh has been given the opportunity to host the tournament opener along with eight other matches. Since India has been allotted the highest number of matches, the ICC has moved its headquarters to Mumbai to ensure smooth and timely preparations for the event. Mr. Ratnakar Shetty has been appointed as the managing director of the event, while the security directorate will be headed by Mr. Shashank Manohar of BCCI.
The allocation of world cup venues is always a much sought after event with major cricketing nations bidding for hosting rights. To avoid favoritism, the ICC prefers to rotate venues between major cricket playing nations. In the bidding for the 2011 event, Australia/New Zealand had an upper hand over the trio of India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as they had not had a chance to host the World cup since 1992. But Indias argument that the trio being a bigger group of countries helped clinch the final deal. The 2015 cricket world cup will be held in Australia/New Zealand.
Cricket world cup organized every four years is the fourth largest and one of the most eagerly awaited and viewed event of the cricket world. It is widely considered to be the pinnacle of achievement in this sport. The excitement among fans is already palpable as the first phase of tickets was put for sale in Mumbai on 1 June 2010. Priced affordably at around 20 US cents, the organizing committee is expecting to reap in bumper sales and not diminish the euphoria of fans. The new revised format of the world cup wherein 14 teams instead of 16 will be participating also ensures that fans get to see their favorite teams play a minimum of six matches even if they are ruled out of the tournament due to early defeats.
Cricket fan or not- there is no way you can escape the all-engulfing madness. From cricket merchandise at stores to travel packages to host nations and restaurants and cafes serving cricket-themed food, the fever is all over. Personal relationships too are not unaffected by the craze. While the love for cricket unites some, it also spells doom for many relationships. There is simply no running away, so prepare to drown yourself in the drone of cricket slogans in the year to come!
