Bappi composes for Word Cup 2011

The composer has come up with a song to cheer the Indian squad at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

Being the only Indian composer to have found a place in the jury of Grammy awards, 2012, is no mean feat. But Bappi Lahiri is not one to sit on his laurels. Dazzling in his new-found glory, the composer shows how game he is for new challenges, as he comes up with a song for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

"Come on India" as the song is titled is written and sung by the composer himself. "I'm all set to enjoy the 40-day action. The song is peppy, energetic and is meant to cheer the Indian team. I'm an avid sports lover and be it football or cricket, I'm always game. The video has been shot already. It will be shortly aired on national television," says Bappi. The lyrics of the song goes like this: "Aankhon mein hai bas ek sapna/Hathon mein hoga World Cup apna/Dekhe ga sara Hindustan." Ask him if he's keen on meeting Bryan Adams, who'll be performing at the gala opening ceremony of World Cup in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on February 17 and Bappi says, "I love his music. But my song is for Indians. I'm toying with the idea of performing the song on Indian soil before one of the matches."

The composer is also mighty upset with a match being pulled out of the Eden Gardens. "I've seen some great cricket grounds the world over, but Eden is Eden. No crowd can ever match up to that at Eden Gardens. As a cricket lover, I'm extremely unhappy with the turnout of events," he says. But the composer is hopeful about India's chances in World Cup. "I think, India has strong chances of winning the World Cup. India should at least make it to the finals," he adds.

Reflecting on his Grammy feat, Bappi explains that it has been a good run, not just for him, but also for his album, "World, Peace And Harmony" that got him a spot in the top 50 Grammy albums but lost out on the main five nominations. "I don't have a producer like Danny Boyle to lobby at the Grammys or the Oscars. But thankfully, my 40 years of experience was considered for a jury membership. This year, I'll be watching the Grammys slated to happen on Feb 13 on TV, but next year, I'll be right there, voting in the World Music section," he says. The composer adds that he's gearing up for a jazz fusion album that he'll be sending for consideration at the Grammy awards, next year.

Well, there's no stopping the golden man from scoring a boundary.
