Sri Lanka’s three World Cup stadiums are “good to go,” according to International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Haroon Lorgat.
Despite stadiums in Sri Lanka not meeting initial ICC deadlines for completion of construction and renovations, all three were now ready, he said.
“We felt they [Eden Gardens - Kolkata] would not be ready by February 27 but they had every opportunity to be ready for the matches in March and we've got to the point now when all of the venues are going to be ready for the games scheduled,” Lorgat said.
Lorgat’s comments come a day ahead of a final report to be released by the ICC’s World Cup venue inspection team. The report will officially announce the status of the venues that have concerned the ICC.
All three of Sri Lanka's World Cup stadiums were still undergoing minor finishing touches, including the paving of a road leading up to the stadium in Pallekele, according to local media reports last week.
Co-hosts Sri Lanka will host eleven matches, including a quarter-final and a semi-final. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 gets underway with the opening ceremony on February 17 and the first match of the tournament on February 19.
