Mohali youth caught red handed for online blackmarketing of ICC WC-2011 India- Pak match tickets

The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell, Chandigarh Police, arrested Mandeep Singh Bhangu, (27 years) software engineer, Sunday night on charges of online black-marketing of ICC World Cup-2011 semi- final cricket match (India vs. Pakistan), scheduled at Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium, on March 30.

Mandeep Singh had recently returned from England, after completing his Masters degree in Computer Engineering, from University of Wales. He was arrested by the team of Cyber Cell, headed by Inspector Neeraj Sarna under the supervision of Sh. Satbir Singh, DSP/Crime.

Mandeep was found cheating people by offering five tickets of the match (Rs. 250 denomination each) at an exaggerated price (around 100 times more than the actual price) of the ticket. He was offering one ticket at a price of Rs. 30,000, on an online shopping website - eBay.com. He also offered that in case a person wants to purchase all five tickets, that he had, he agreed to sell them at Rs.1.2 lakhs (Rs. 24,000 each).

The accused also invited bids for the tickets on the website. As an invitation, he wrote - ‘Life time opportunity to watch the Clash of Titans in World Cup Semifinal. This is it, the best match ever to happen in history of Cricket. 5 Tickets for CHAIR Block Entrance Gate No.2, PCA Stadium, Mohali. India V s. Pakistan, 30th March, 2011, Semi Final Cricket World Cup, 2011. Would you dare to miss this match? And curse yourself for your whole lifetime. I think nobody would. You can pay me via Paypal, UK Bank Account or Indian Bank Account. 5 Tickets for 1800 Pounds, 3000 Dollars, Rs. 120,000. Individual ticket to be sold at a price of Rs. 30 k per ticket, please send me a message.”

The Cyber Cell team on getting information about this, immediately visited the website and offered him a bid of Rs. 95,000 for the all the five tickets and left a contact number. Within minutes, Mandeep Singh contacted the police, thinking them as prospective buyers of the tickets in his possession. A deal was struck and he reached the Sector 11 coffee joint as asked by the police for the rest of the deed. Mandeep was in a white colour brand new Chevrolet Cruze car. was asked to reach a coffee joint in Sector 11. Mandeep Singh Bhangu .

Mandeep was caught red handed, striking the deal when a decoy customer was sent to negotiate with him. After negotiations, he sold one ticket for Rs. 24,000. and while he exchanged money, he was caught red handed. The other four tickets were also recovered from his possession.

Mandeep is son of a retired Subedar Major of Indian Army and is settled in Sector 63, Mohali. He did his Computer Engineering from lET, Bhaddal, Ropar and then went to United Kingdom to pursue his masters degree in Computers from University of Wales. Presently, he was freelancing as computer software engineer.

A case FIR No. 81 dated 27.03.2011, U/S 66-A of the IT Act and 420 IPC has been registered, against the accused Mandeep Singh Bhangu, at Police Station-11. The police is further investigating into the matter.
