ICC Cricket World Cup: Tickets for semis, final from Feb 28

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the process for the public sale of tickets for the cricket World Cup semi-finals and final.

The semi-finals will be held in Colombo and Mohali on Mar 29 and 30, respectively, while the final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Apr 2.

ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat announced in Bengaluru on Saturday that there will be a public ballot system similar to those used in the majority of global sporting events, according an ICC press release.

"The ballot will open on Monday, Feb 28. You may apply for the ICC CWC 2011 Ticket Public Ballot from Feb 28 to Mar 6, 2011," he said.

When the tickets were initially scheduled to go on sale on Feb 21, the demand was so high that it overloaded the website.

Lorgat said: "It was most unfortunate and no blame should be directed at Kyazoonga, the ICC's official ticketing partner, as no one could have anticipated that tens of millions people would be trying to access the site an hour before it went live. In fact, Kyazoonga has been an innocent third party to all the issues we have had with ticketing."

People, willing to view the semi-final and the final from the stadiums, will have to follow six steps to get tickets.

They will have to fill in an application form at http://cwc2011ballot.kyazoonga.com to apply for the draw.

Two tickets could be bought with one application, while only one application per person is allowed.

The draw will be made by computer on Mar 10 and the successful applicants will be informed through emails the following day.

Successful applicants will receive a confirmation page and email upon their successful payment for the tickets through Kyazoonga's secure payment processing website.

They will receive their tickets from the third week of March 2011.
