Pakistan vs Zimbabwe: Afridi backs Kamran as wicket-keeper

KANDY: Pakistan’s skipper Shahid Afridi has fully backed his wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal despite his notorious form behind the wickets.
Talking to newsmen here in Kandy on Sunday, Boom Boom Afridi, who is leading the tournament with 15 wickets, said that the team combination is good but unfortunately performances are not coming through which has allowed everybody to speak against the team.
Talking about Akmals, Afridi said that Umar Akmal is fully fit now and he started fielding today while his elder brother Kamran has been at the center of criticism from all corners but nobody should forget his match-winning innings for Pakistan in the past.
“Kamran himself has realized his poor performance and is going an extra yard in practicing his art in the practice sessions. He is working as hard as he can to get back his wicket-keeping form. I fully back him as my number one wicket-keeper and top order batsman and I know he will perform in the coming matches”, Afridi said.
When asked about who he will favor as title favorites, Afridi said, “All the teams have come into this tournament with full preparation and one can’t pinpoint any single team as title favorites. Whosoever performed at the given day will clinch the title”.
Talking about the frame of mind of his cricketers before the game against Zimbabwe, Boom Boom Afridi stated that they are not taking Zimbabwe very lightly and will give their best shot to defeat the Africans.
“I have no fears, we are not focussing on the match against Australia. We are going match by match and the one against Zimbabwe is very important for us We know we must win that game,” Afridi made it clear.
It is interesting to note here that the match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe can be affected by rain for half day.
