The Cricket World Cup begins!

The ICC Cricket World Cup kicked off with a glittering opening ceremony in Dhaka on Thursday.

The captains of the 14 world cup teams rode around the historic Bangabandhu Stadium in colourful cycle rickshaws—a symbol of traditional Bangaldesh.

3,500 performers put up a show reflecting Indian, Sri Lankan, and Bangladeshi culture.

Indian singer Sonu Nigam, Bangladesh-based Runa Laila as well as Canadian rocker Bryan Adams were the headline acts of the night.

Just before the ceremony all the 14 captains got together for a photograph. Also present in the hall was what they all are playing for, the world cup trophy. Almost all teams present there would be hoping that in a month-and-a-half from now they would be the chosen one holding aloft that trophy before handing it on to their teammates.
