ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 kicks off in Bangladesh on a grand scale.

The 10th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup kicked off last night at the Bangabandhu Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh with a spectacular opening ceremony.

For a sport that has a bad history with opening ceremonies, nothing could have been more welcome than the sheer enthusiasm and passion with which Bangladesh had put together its show. Addressing the ceremony ICC President Sharad Pawar said 17th February 2011 will go down as a "historic day" for the people of Bangladesh join India and Sri Lanka who will host together the ICC Cricket World Cup and make this tournament the most memorable yet. He acknowledged the contribution and support of the Government of Bangladesh and in particular, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for her magnificent support she has extended to the tournament. The ICC chief also praised the Government of India and the Prime Minister
Dr Manmohan Singh as well as the President of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government for their great support and cooperation.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially opened the ICC Cricket World Cup at the ceremony. It included performances by some of the sub-continent's and the world's brightest star performers, including Chayanot, Sonu Nigam, Bathiya and Santhush, Iraj Weeraratne, Sabina Yasmin, Momtaz, Bryan Adams and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. In addition various dance items and acts were presented from the host countries displaying their enriched culture. However the best, and the most unforgettable, moment was when all the captains were brought in on cycle rickshaws. Each captain came on rickshaws, with a young boy sitting beside him, waving to the crowd, and the crowd responding generously.
