Pak vs WI: Keep an eye on these key clashes

Pakistan have beaten the Windies four times out of the last five games the teams have played against each other. The last time the two teams met, at Johannesburg on September 23, 2009, Pakistan beat the Windies by five wickets.

Tournament form

Pakistan: Save for a blip against New Zealand, where Ross Taylor blasted them out of the game, Pakistan have been having their best Cup since 1999, when they had reached the final. They have won five out of their six games-the biggest triumph being against the Aussies, who were on a 34-match unbeaten streak. Against minnows, they were ruthless.

West Indies: They were pretty efficient against the minnows, the most emphatic show being against Bangladesh at Dhaka, where they skittled out the hosts for merely 58. Lost a game against England they should have won, before being beaten convincingly by India. Can be as unpredictable as their opponents!

Gayle vs Gul: Umar Gul has arguably been the seamer of the tournament so far. Operating superbly with both the old and the new ball, he has been the most trusted weapon in Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi's arsenal. How much Gul is able to control a dangerman like Chris Gayle could decide the fate of this contest. The West Indian opener would look to play his natural, attacking game. A fascinating duel, this.

Afridi vs Pollard: This clash promises to pit the skills of two of the most exciting all-rounders in world cricket-Shahid Afridi and Kieron Pollard. Delivering leg spin of the highest quality, Afridi has been the top wicket-taker of the tournament. On the other hand, Pollard has been at his destructive best and has the best strike rate in the tournament so far.

Pak Middle-Order vs Kemar Roach: With his genuine pace, Kemar Roach has been a revelation, reminding us faintly of the glorious days of Windies pace. His first spell itself could destroy the Pakistan challenge. With the openers out of form, the onus will be on the middle order of Umar Akmal, Younis Khan and Misbal-ul Haq to tackle this danger in the best possible way.

Where Pak can hurt Windies: Having beaten the Aussies, Pakistan are currently upbeat. They have a quality seam attack, and skipper Afridi could be a handful with his tricky bunch of leg-spinners.

Where Windies could hurt Pak: Gayle, if he gets going, could blow Pakistan away. Pollard can also be dangerous in the lower order. In Roach the Windies have a seamer who can make early inroads into the Pakistan batting line-up. Sulieman Benn can be dangerous with his left-arm spinners too.
