Pakistan PM to attend WC semifinal in India

The Pakistan prime minister says he will travel to India to watch a World Cup cricket semifinal between the two nations. The match on Wednesday in Mohali is the first time the two nations have played each other since the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said in statement on Sunday he had accepted the invitation of his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh, to attend the match. Pakistan and India have deep cultural, religious and linguistic ties but have fought three wars since 1947.

Low-level peace talks were ended after the attacks in Mumbai, which were carried out by Pakistani-based militants, though over the last year tentative contacts have resumed.
